Audi park infuriates drivers online by taking up two spaces at Sydney beach

An “entitled” park by an Audi driver at a crowded Sydney beach has infuriated thousands of people online.

In a photo posted to Reddit, the red flashy car was clearly parked across two whole spaces at Dee Why beach.

The accompanying comment read: “One of the busiest beach days of the year and this a-hole parked like this”.

Attracting more than a thousand comments, the post was met with an abundance of outrage.

“Just take your lifted hilux down there and park it on top so that it‘s still two cars in two spots,” one comment read.

Another person wrote: “Obviously spent all his money on the car and now can’t afford the insurance...”

One user appeared to come to the Audi driver’s defence, at least in part, writing: “R8s are stupid wide cars, and their doors are really long - even if it technically fitted between the lines, I doubt you could get in or out with cars both sides.

“Not that I think that’s an excuse for doing this - similar to Dodge Rams etc, if your car doesn’t fit in a car space then you should park on the street.”

But soon enough, someone fought back: “Realistically he/she has only convinced one person but annoyed thousands”.

One confused person wrote that they don’t “get the logic,” adding they presume the driver tried to avoid others opening doors into their car, but said they were just begging passersby to do much worse.

A reply to that comment read: ‘Pretty sure being entitled counter balances having logic”.

While the park clearly violates social norms, there appears to be no NSW legislation legally forbidding the move.

According to the NSW Government, motorists must not stop or park their vehicle in any of these situations — none of which mention taking up two spaces:

“Alongside another parked vehicle (double park); across a driveway, unless you’re picking up or dropping off passengers; on a median strip, unless a sign says you can; on a traffic island; within an intersection; on a children’s crossing or pedestrian crossing; on a railway level crossing; on footpaths and nature strips, unless a sign says you can; in a slip lane, unless a sign says you can”.
