Can Jessica Alba Sing?

June 2024 · 3 minute read

Over the course of the last two decades, Jessica Alba proved the world she’s capable of delivering great performances and building a successful company from the ground up. She’s a skilled actress and a capable businesswoman, but is singing one of her many talents?

No, Jessica Alba can’t sing. None of her previous projects required her to master this skill, and it’s probably for the best. She admitted being tone-deaf, after being told she should leave singing to the pros by pretty much everyone who had a chance to hear her sing.

Singing to Her Kids

Jessica Alba welcomed three children with her husband Cash Warren – Honor Marie Warren in 2008, Haven Garner Warren in 2011, and their first son Hayes Alba Warren in 2017.

Like many fellow moms, the famous actress learned that getting a crying baby to sleep can be quite a struggle, but she came up with her own method to make it happen. She started singing to them before sleep shortly after they were born, and stuck to this habit as they grew older.

Alba discussed her technique during an appearance on The Meredith Vieira Show, and revealed that her kid enjoyed her singing – but not everyone felt the same way. An impromptu sleepover at her house made her daughters realize her singing voice isn’t that great.

The actress said she’s “tone-deaf” and “the worst singer ever” during the appearance on this show. Her daughter Honor didn’t realize this until her friends started snickering after hearing her mom sing at a sleepover, because her voice sounded really awful.

Carpool Karaoke

The lack of musical talent didn’t stop Jessica Alba from making an appearance on an episode of Apple Music’s Carpool Karaoke series, based on the popular recurring segment from James Corden’s late night show.

She reunited with her Planet of the Apps co-stars Gwyneth Paltrow and will.i.am, as they took a fun, music-filled airport drive, and sang along to The Black Eyed Peas’ hit songs “Let’s Get It Started” and “I Gotta Feeling”.

Alba’s voice didn’t sound as awful as she says it is, but she had two extra people to cover her flaws. The actress previously told NME she doesn’t do karaoke, and prefers dancing and encouraging other people to sing, because she learned she’s not so great at it the hard way.

“Once I was with my family at a Mother’s Day ball and I sang ‘Let It Be’. I was seven and everyone told me that I couldn’t sing and they all joined in because my voice was so bad – a little bit of family humiliation,” recalled Alba.

Music Ties

Jessica Alba may not be a great singer, but she still has ties to the music industry. The Black Eyed Peas singer will.i.am and her actually go the way back, since she made an appearance in a star-studded music video for his song “We Are the Ones” in 2008.

She also made a cameo in Saturday Night Live digital short titled “I Just Had Sex” that The Lonely Island recorded alongside Akon. Alba later had the honor of being one of the stars who appeared in Taylor Swift’s Grammy-winning video for “Bad Blood”. She told Andy Cohen that she didn’t know the singer prior to filming this visual, and that she surprised her by being one of the nicest people she ever met.

Alba’s name has also been dropped in several of Eminem’s songs, starting with D12 track “My Band” in 2004, where he described her as “my wife to be”. The actress later told Fusion Pulse Media she had a chance to run into him at the gym, and described him as “a really talented songwriter and rapper” in an interview with GQ.
