Nick Jonas Just Added Playwright To His Long List Of Achievements

April 2024 · 3 minute read

Nick Jonas is a musician, a songwriter, a producer, an actor, a philanthropist, and a… Playwright? Well, just when we thought he couldn’t possibly fit any other talents on his growing list of achievements he goes and surprises us by doing just that.

Yes, you read that right. As well as promoting his latest single, “Right Now,” with Robin Schulz, filming upcoming movie, “Midway,” lending his voice to feature animation, “Ugly Dolls,” campaigning to put an end to modern slavery with, “Strike Out Slavery,” and planning his wedding, the star recently found the time to oversee a table reading of his first ever dramatic play.

With the help of some very famous faces.

Just before the Emmy’s fever took over Hollywood, Jonas headed to Chateau Marmont to meet with those he had exclusively invited to the first table reading of his self-written play which is rumoured to be called, “Dessert First”.

According to Variety, he had requested for three dozen studio executives and film producers to be in attendance at the reading including, “La La Land,” producer, Marc Platt, Amblin casting EVP, Leslee Feldman, 21 Laps’ president of television, Josh Barry, Sony executive and fellow, “Jumanji,” alumnus, Maia Eyre, and Sony Pictures’ creative production VP, Matt Milam.

The RSVP’s at the reading also included executives from Paramount, Annapurna, Imagine, Studio 8, WME, Universal, and representatives from Jonas’ management company, Philymack.

But most interestingly, the cast for the first table read of, “Dessert First,” consisted of Broadway and, “Glee,” actor Darren Criss, “The Vampire Diaries,” actress Nina Dobrev, “Saturday Night Live” actress Molly Shannon, Omar Miller from, “Ballers,” Damian O’Hare of, “Pirates of the Caribbean,” and Jonas’ own longtime friends Killian Donnelly (Broadway’s “Kinky Boots”), Lola Kelly, Rebecca Kitt, and Kevin Covert.

Jonas started writing his play around a year ago whilst he was filming big-screen success, “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle,” alongside Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Jack Black, and Kevin Hart.

Now there aren’t many more details about Jonas’ new play out yet but what we do know is that he is developing the project through a new production company, which he recently set up so that he could follow his passion for acting and also try his hand at writing and the more creative side of things.

We are super excited about this possible new play, and we hope that it is the first of many Jonas will write since he is already kind of known for his incredible songwriting skills. And we shall definitely be keeping our eyes peeled for more news about it!
