"Yellowstone" was filmed in several places from Utah to Montana, but not much in Yellowstone. Here's a look at the show.

"Yellowstone's" third season officially hit the screen last June, following the life of John Dutton (Kevin Costner) in his quest to keep the Dutton Ranch safe.

Since the beginning of the show, many viewers were intrigued about Dutton Ranch, its location, and if it is indeed a real ranch.

KNOWING DUTTON RANCH

The Paramount Network show set Dutton Ranch in Montana, near Yellowstone National Park. Although it was filmed in a ranch in Montana, Dutton Ranch is a fictitious place.

According to the series' location manager Mark Jarett, "The ranch is one of the main characters on the show, and its scope and scale make it that way."

The log cabin home on the show is a real 5,000 square-foot mansion, built in 1917 by William Ford and his family.

THE REAL LOCATION

The ranch is located in Bitterroot Valley, Darby, Montana, which is hours away from the boundaries of Yellowstone National Park.

The massive success allowed "Yellowstone" to earn the number one position of the most-watched cable premiere of the year.

Although there is not much truth to its location on-screen, fans can still visit the site and rent the log cabins during the summer.

"YELLOWSTONE" FILM LOCATION

Although the most notable place in the series is the ranch, most parts of the show are filmed elsewhere, with 75 percent in Utah.

One of the biggest reasons as to why Utah is set as a location is the tax rebates. An estimated amount of $80 million is allotted for the show in Utah, and $7 million in tax breaks is received for each season.

The show also had over 20 other locations between Utah and Montana, as well as Park City's Utah Film Studio for interior scenes.

A MAJOR MILESTONE

During the third season's premiere, "Yellowstone" hit a significant milestone with getting 4.2 million viewers on Paramount Network.

The show's rating in P18-49 also had a 127 percent growth from its second season and was 112 percent higher than the previous one's P25-54 rating.

The massive success allowed "Yellowstone" to earn the number one position of the most-watched cable premiere of the year.
